Hip-Hop video by Duane Kemp. Choreography by Corinne Kemp

30th April

A demonstration of the Choreography of Corinne Kemp with her friends for a new dance department.

I used 1 camera in several positions to get the angles. Took a night of crash editing to get this promotinal on the net for the school. I'm rather happy with the video work, though lighting could be better.

Duration : 3 min 30 sec

Does anyone have any info on some local dance schools?

29th April

My daughter is 9 and wants to take dance classes and im not sure what are the best schools to go to,
we live in tulsa ok…
i should add she would really like to do modern dance or something along those lines

You live in a city with its own professional ballet company, so that totally removes all the guesswork. By all means, check out the Tulsa Ballet Center for Dance Education:
http://www.tulsaballet.org/tbcde/cde.htm

Their Preparatory Ballet level is for students ages 6-9, so your daughter would be starting right in the nick of time. My guess, though, is that their classes are well underway, so it might be hard to start so late in the year.

New note: Did you check out the site? It says:
"Students are also exposed to other forms of dance, including modern dance, musical theatre and contemporary repertoire to enrich and enhance their dance experience."

Ballet is the foundation for modern dance. To be a good modern dancer, you must also study ballet.

What kind of slow dance songs are good to play at a middle school dance as well as other songs to dance to?

29th April

Hey I’m supposed to get a list together for a friend of mine who is going to be the dj at our middle school dance. But he doesn’t know what to play and I dont either, I’m more into classical rock and stuff like that. So I dont know the cool music that is in now. Can anyone help us please? That would be so great, and mucho aprecciated. Thanks!

First buy the newest "NOW" cd, i think its #27.
Also Chris Brown is very big right now,and
Rhianna,
Nickelback(rock star)
Flo Rider (low)
Pink (so what)
Kid Rock(all summer long), well, the whole album is good
Marroon 5
Cupid( cuban shuffle)
Souja Boy (crank that)

that should get you started, really, just google Billboard top charts, look under hip hop and pop. Just make sure everything you download or buy is a clean, radio edited version! Good luck- i have dj-ed school dances, and it's exausting- they will request all night. You might also look on Billboard on the rock section- some kids are really into that hard core metal. Again, make sure the songs are free of bad language!
Both Rhianna and Chris Brown have slow songs.

Alabama Basketball Tickets – Can The Tide Keep Their Ncaa Streak Alive?

29th April

Alabama basketball tickets have been in demand recently, even though the overall sports scene in Tuscaloosa has been dominated by a certain football coach being hired amidst much fanfare. Even though the national spotlight has been on the gridiron, the Crimson Tide have been making an intense push to get back to the NCAA Tournament. Although Alabama is currently ranked in the polls, their spot in the “Big Dance” is not guaranteed at this point. Below we’ll take a look at Alabama’s qualifications to determine whether or not they’ll be dancing next month.

Schedule

Alabama has the advantage of playing in one of the power conferences on the college basketball landscape, and they currently sit atop the standings in the SEC West. However, that can be somewhat deceiving, as Arkansas and LSU, two perennial contenders in the conference, are having somewhat disappointing seasons. Not to mention, a 6-6 conference record is not going to impress the selection committee.

However, the Crimson Tide have played a strong schedule overall, with quality wins over the likes of Iowa, Xavier, North Carolina State and Oklahoma, and they recently took Florida to the wire before losing a tough game in Gainesville. Even if the Crimson Tide aren’t selected for the tournament, it’s been a good year to have Alabama basketball tickets.

Recent Trends

One of the overlooked aspects of the selection process for the NCAA Tournament is how a team has played in recent games. This is a factor that as of now does not appear to work in Alabama’s favor. They are only 5-5 in their last 10 games, and that includes losses to a struggling Auburn team and Vanderbilt. The Vanderbilt loss doesn’t look too bad now, however, given that the Commodores recently dominated Florida on their home floor, and Vanderbilt is always a tough place to play.

Outlook

Overall, Alabama has every opportunity to get themselves into the tournament. They have games remaining against Tennessee, Auburn and the two schools in Mississippi, and there’s also the SEC Tournament. If Alabama can get themselves into a mode where they finish strong, their final resume could look quite good, especially if that resume includes 20 wins, a national ranking, an SEC West title and a deep run in the SEC Tournament.

If all these things happen, and it’s somewhat likely that they will, Alabama’s streak of five consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament will be extended, and fans with Alabama basketball tickets will have a potential championship team to watch.

What Is The Theory Of Multiple Intelligences?

29th April

Among the numerous educational theories in existence today, Multiple Intelligences has gained both popularity and visibility because of its ability to successfully reach a wide variety of children. The theory of Multiple Intelligences was originally developed by Howard Gardner, in a 1983 publication titled “Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences”. It originally stated that there are seven different kinds of intelligences, or ways that children think and learn: verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, and intrapersonal. Gardner later added an eighth intelligence called the naturalistic intelligence.

The eight intelligences are defined as follows:

1. Verbal-Linguistic – This intelligence revolves around the spoken and written word. Children who excel in this area are often superb readers, writers, story-tellers, and absorb foreign languages more easily than others. They often excel in a traditional school environment that emphasizes reading, note-taking, and discussion.

2. Logical-Mathematical – Children who exhibit this intelligence may excel in mathematics and sciences, but also tend to grasp abstract concepts and pattern recognition. They often thrive in the traditional classroom, primarily in courses that involve logical instruction such as laboratory work and problem-solving.

3. Spatial – Spatial thinkers tend to have good visual memory and an artistic eye or ability, especially in multiple dimensions. They are also good with directions. For children who learn through the spatial intelligence, their classroom work can be enhanced through the use of manipulatives and hands-on work, such as models and dissections.

4. Bodily-Kinesthetic – This intelligence refers to movement and athleticism, whether sports, dance, or drama. Bodily-kinesthetic children often exhibit muscle memory, such as that used in memorization of dance or musical performance. They may also express themselves through the creation of objects, such as in engineering or craftmaking.

5. Musical – Musical learners exhibit abilities such as a strong sense of rhythm or absolute pitch. Not only do they excel in musical fields, but they may use music to assist other learning activities, such as putting a memorization assignment to music, or working while music plays in the background.

6. Interpersonal – Interpersonal thinkers approach life through relationships with others. They work well in a group, and generally have an extroverted personality. They communicate well, enjoy debate and discussion, and often excel in leadership and teaching.

7. Intrapersonal – In contrast to the interpersonal intelligence, those who exhibit the intrapersonal intelligence are often introverts, and explore the world through emotions, thoughts, and theories. They often excel in philosophy or theology. They may prefer to work alone to achieve a goal.

8. Naturalistic – This last intelligence was added to the theory much later than the original seven. Children strong in this intelligence have a greater sensitivity toward animals, plants, and non-living natural elements such as the weather. These children learn best in an “outdoor classroom” or natural setting.

Understanding your child’s primary intelligences will allow you to assist them during their education, whether they are home-schooled or in a traditional classroom environment. Use their natural intelligences to strengthen and complement their education. You can also teach them how to use their strengths to support their weaknesses. For example, if your child is a bodily-kinesthetic learner, but dislikes memorizing facts for history class, have him repeat answers to trivia along with the toss of a ball, or encourage her to act out historical scenes in a dramatic form. Utilizing your children’s natural learning capabilities will help ensure success throughout their school years and into college.

Part 3 of 6 Perm Ballet School Documentary Captives of Terpsichore

28th April

This is part 3 of a 6 part film made in 1994, but distributed in 1995. The film focuses on one of the greatest ballet teachers of the 20th century, Ludmila Pavlovna Sakharova . Sakharova is the current artistic director of the Perm Ballet school , known as the Perm choreographic school similar to the Bolshoi Ballet school being called the Moscow choreographic school. The Perm school is one of the top 3 ballet schools in Russia, with the others being the Vaganova Academy and Bolshoi school. Sakharova was the teacher that trained her most famous student and probably the most remarkable teenage student ever, Nadezhda Pavlova . At the same time that she was teaching Pavlova , her other student, Olga Chenchikova , was winning the silver medal against older professional dancers in the 1973 Moscow Ballet Competition when 16 year old Pavlova became the only ballerina to win the Grand Prize at a major competition of that level.

The film starts with one of their foreign students, a girl from Ireland talking. The student that is the main focus of this documentary is Natasha Balakhnicheva . Her fellow classmates shown are the girl from Ireland, two Japanese students and three Russians. American reviews of this film were very critical of Sakharova’s marine sergeant domination. She was considered like an evil witch and the film producer was criticized for showing too much of the girls’ faces while being yelled at. Sakharova might have traits of a Stalin type dictator, but when you see how much energy that she puts into teaching and how she acts at the end, you see that she loves ballet and loves her students, but sometimes has difficulty showing her love to her students. Anyone who could help produce a Nadezhda Pavlova is a very special teacher. This film taught me to ignore reviews because I think that this was a very well made film from a ballet standpoint and shows a great teacher, who makes it obvious that any student wanting to become a great professional ballerina cannot expect ballet training to be a fun picnic. Ballet is difficult and the competition is rough as the students trying to get accepted into the famous ballet school find out at the beginning of the movie.

My final comment is that part of the film focuses on the 3rd International Arabesque competition held in Perm. Among the important ballet personalities involved in this competition and shown in the film are Maya Plisetskaya , Vladimir Vasiliev and Ekaterina Maximova ( Maksimova ). An interesting note is that during the competition in 1994, the Kirov Mariinsky star , Lariissa Lezhnina is shown outside the back stage door, but only for a few seconds and probably the producer had no idea who she was. Natasha Balakhnicheva is shown in the competition dancing the pas de deux from Giselle , Carmen and a new ballet .
