Is this normal for a dance school?
I'm new at hip hop dancing (I've only been doing it since October) and I love it. The only problem is that every time we have a class we learn a whole bunch of different dances and we only know part of our recital dance. Our recital is in six months and half of the moves our dance teacher it teaching us I can't do because I have problems with my back. If we don't get the dance down flat in one class our teacher gets fustrated. I want to know, is this normal for a dance school to do and should I quit and go to a different school?
look i m taking dancing lessons since i was 5 i take hip hop lessons too though i hate hip hop music the dance is cool!!
the lesson is always that way i mean during the lesson u do many things they don't only concentrate on the recital only when u r one or two months away….so chill out…now bout ur teacher…
have u told him/her bout this problem that u have n that u cant make all the moves if yes then he/she doesn't know how to teach well if no then u should talk to him /her

Well, first of all, if you have problem with your back you probably should try something else other than hip hop. If you injure your back it could be very serious.
I have been dancing since 3 years old, and went with a number of different studios and different disciplines. It is normal to spend only a portion of the class on the recital dance, so it usually takes several weeks to learn the entire dance. That way, the teacher can perfect sections of the dance one at a time.
The only time that I've learned an entire dance all at once is when I guest-appear with a TV dance troupe, but then we are talking dancing with professionals. There, we learned the entire dance within 30 to 60 minutes, break, then spend the next 3 to 4 hours perfecting it and go on camera the same evening. The next day you start all over again.
But bottom line, if you are not comfortable with the teaching style of your current school, go somewhere else. Do heed my advice re your back though – bow out of the recital rather than injuring yourself as that could be for life.

we usually learn and concentrate only on our recital dance starting after xmas until june. dont learn any other dances. it takes us about 3 months to learn the dance. so i would find a different school while still dancing at your current studio. if you cant find a better studio, then try to work things out with your teacher.

This teacher's style may not be best for you. If the majority of the class feel his frustration, though, you may have a dancer that isn't a real teacher teaching your class. You may or may not be aware that there are no standards for the business. That's one reason the Arthur Murray and Fred Astaire ballroom studios are successful: even their newest teachers are in a program that has some quality control.

depends on how technically driven the studio is, at my studio we focus on technique, so a hip hop class might be like yours at my studio(ive never taken one so…) also make sure your teacher is aware of your situation, if you try to do moves that hurt your back it may get worse, to a point where you cant dance. I would try out other studios in your area, some schools offer a free trial class to see if you like the teacher and if you like the learning enviroment! always remember to work your hardest. Everybody doesnt get everything the first time, so definately dont give up!

it sounds like that class may be an intermediate or advanced level. if this is your first class it may be best to start a new class for beginners so that you can have more time and patient instruction. however, if many participants are having difficulty to absorb the lessons in one class and the instructor is frustrated, then he is not a good instructor and his attitude sucks, besides his job is to teach and encourage and develop, and nothing more or less.
