Movies about Dancing are Timeless

9th March 2010

There are some wonderful movies out there with a theme about dancing. They are timeless in nature even though they have been around for decades. When they are on TV those of us that have already seen them will watch them again and again. Those that are seeing them for the first time will be very impressed with them. There is just something magical about dancing that reels us in and gets out blood pumping faster!

Dirty Dancing is a movie with Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray. The story involves a determined young lady with all of the perks in life and her family going to a summer retreat where music and dancing are part of the program. She then meets the character of Swayze named Johnny who teaches dance.

She realizes that many people don’t have life as easy as her and she is willing to stand up for the ways in which they have been wronged. Of course this comes at the expense of her family being disappointed with some of her choices.

The movie has plenty of great dance moves for all of us to pick up on. It also have some great segments where Gray is trying to learn the right moves and we can all appreciate how trying those types of efforts can be for us. Of course Dirty Dancing is also a love story that everyone loves with the guy getting his girl in the end.

Who can forget the 80’s dance movie Footloose with Kevin Bacon? The theme song by Kenny Loggins is still played all the time on the radio and at dances. This movie involves a young man moving to a new location where his aunt and uncle are from. He stands out due to his loud music and his love for dancing. There is no dancing in that town as it was banned by the Reverend.

Footloose is also a great love story for the younger people to appreciate as well as about learning to stand up for yourself when you are struggling to fit in. There are rumors that Footloose is being remade though with Zack Effron from High School Musical stepping into that lead role. Only time will tell if this project is real or just one myth circulating on the internet.

Flashdance is another great hit movie with inspiring dancers doing all that they can in order to make that dream they have a reality. It gives you an insight into the fact that being a talented dancer isn’t always easy. There are many sacrifices to be made along the way. It also shows that there is plenty of hard work and dedication that goes into it. Professional dancers don’t just wake up one day with all the right moves to make it happen. Instead they have to be creative, take risks, and continue to work to make it all look like it should out there.

No mention of movies with dancing would be complete though if we didn’t bring some of John Travolta’s roles into the picture. In both Saturday Night Fever and Grease he shows us some amazing dance moves that have made him famous again and again. While most of his roles now don’t involve dancing it is often what we think of when we see this great performer.

Some of the best moves of the disco era came from Saturday Night Fever and some of you reading this even have a smile on your face as you recall doing those moves yourself back then. Even though the styles of dancing are varied in these movies, they are all timeless icons that you just can’t help but be drawn in by.

Can you make a conversation with this person?
My parents-in-laws practice atheism,do not travel, only listen to folklore music, know very little about movies, popular / timeless music, rarely dance at special occasions, watch mostly documentary chanels and local news, have university education and they still read oldfashioned books that make them still ignorant of many things in the world and the positive sides of other countries. They can’t listen to my diverse topics for too long before they cut in with their own. How many of you can enjoy the company of these people, bcoz they bore me to death as much as I bore them! At least I have a lot of popular topics to talk about, but it doesn’t work. What do you think?
They are not even interested in hearing about other people’s travel, which must be enticing to the unknown???
And I like talking to the older and wiser. But it seems that my parents-inlaws are in a world of perfection where the drama of the world or other people seem gross. they never talk about bad experiences or inspirational stories where I can learn from. I would love to make converstions where they talk about their experiences. For exemple I learnt that my husband was a naughty little kid, but they do not want to stress too much about it. so, how can I make a conversation?

I’m sure I could find something in common with them to talk about, but then again I can find something in common with just about anybody…

I dont know. They do kinda sound boring, but hell, thats life. Gotta deal with a few boring people here and there. They make you appreciate the interesting people more.

You never said if you’re a christian or what. Why do you feel obligated to them?

They’re selfish pigs. I’d say avoid them as much as possible. They sound like weirdos.

You are not of a feather, so do not flock with them, or do not take it personally.

In my culture we say: "Someone is growing a beard, should this concern me?!"

In a different word, If he is the carrier of his beard, whether it makes him ugly or not, why should I bother?!!!

    Here are some ideas:

    1. try talking to them about the latest news and how it is amazing that that happened

    2. try talking to them about that if they can listen to you for once and stop caring about themself

    3. try getting them to do something fun outside like going to the mall, or going to a minor league baseball game or something, anything that you think is really fun

    last but not least:
    4. try telling them jokes and tell them about the outside world

Well, if you want to make conversation with a boring person, unfortunately you have to find a boring subject. If they watch the news at least, pick something no matter how boring and take it from there.
Some people are just boring, Im sure thought that they have friends who think they arent. I know lots of boring people but I always find something to talk about. When all else fails however, grin bear it till they leave. You cant make yourself enjoy something with them, but at least you try.

Well, what I do…is just focus the topic on them. I ask them questions about them, their life, loves etc. I mean, why fight it? They will not change….and neither will you….so, you can make it less boring for them to allow them to talk about themselves. And, who knows; maybe you will enjoy their stories….if not; at least there is peace within the family. I mean, it’s not the end of the world to focus on your in-laws is it? You’re not there daily, so just listen and enjoy someone Else’s idea of enjoyment….that would make you the better person, humble, and I bet they will end up LOVING you, and it’s always pleasing for your spouse to see their parents loving you!
